3. Which type of wax (e.g., hard wax, soft wax, sugaring) for which type of hair/skin?
Choosing the right wax depends on skin type, hair type, and the body area you’re waxing.
- Hard Wax (Stripless Wax – Film Wax): This wax hardens on the skin and is removed without strips. It’s excellent for sensitive areas like the face, underarms, and bikini line. New advanced formulas work perfectly on larger areas of the body as well. Hard wax encapsulates the hair, not the skin, making it less painful and ideal for coarser hair.
- Relevant products: All products in “Film Wax Drops” category, under EPILATION > WAXING.
- Soft Wax (Strip Wax): Applied thinly and removed with a cloth or paper strip, soft wax is best for larger body areas like legs, arms, and the back. It adheres to both the hair and the skin, providing a strong grip for fine to medium hair. It can be more exfoliating than hard wax.
- Relevant products: All products in “Roll-On cartridges” and “Metallic Jars” categories, under EPILATION > WAXING.
- Sugaring: An ancient method using a paste made basically of sugar and other components. It’s applied against the hair growth and flicked off in the direction of hair growth, usually with the hand. There are also Sugaring products that can be used with Strips. Sugaring is typically less irritating than traditional waxing, perfect for very sensitive skin, and can lead to less ingrown hair. It’s effective on all hair types.

4. How do I properly prepare the skin before waxing?
Proper skin preparation is crucial for a successful and comfortable hair removal with wax.
- Cleanse: You should start with cleansing the skin. Use a mild cleanser to remove any lotions, oils, sweat and any potential grease. Residue on the skin can prevent the wax from adhering properly.
- Relevant product: “Pre Depilation Gel”, in “Before/After Waxing” category, under EPILATION > WAXING.
- Exfoliate (24-48 hours prior): Gently exfoliate the area 1-2 days before waxing to remove dead skin cells. This helps prevent ingrown hairs and allows for a smoother hair removal with wax. Avoid harsh scrubs right before your appointment.
- Relevant product: “Pre Depil Gel Scrub”, in “Before/After Waxing” category, under EPILATION > WAXING.
- Ensure Skin is Dry: Pat the skin completely dry. Any moisture can hinder the wax’s effectiveness. You can apply a thin layer of pre-wax powder to absorb excess oil and moisture, creating a barrier between the wax and the skin.
- Relevant product: “Pre Depil Talc”, in “Before/After Waxing” category, under EPILATION > WAXING.
- Avoid Lotions/Oils: The skin cannot have any moisturizers, sunscreens, or oils, applied on it on the day of the hair removal with wax, as these can create a barrier and prevent the wax from gripping the hair. Only exception is the special Monsieur Barber Emollient and Soothing Oil, because its special formulation enables it to act as an emollient on dry skin preparing it for waxing.
5. What is the correct way to apply and remove the wax?
Getting the technique right is key to effective hair removal with wax and minimizing discomfort.
Application:
STEP 1 – Temperature Check: Always test the wax temperature on a small area of your wrist to ensure it’s warm, not hot.
- STEP 2 – Apply in Hair Growth Direction: Using, either a roll-on cartridge or a spatula, apply a thin, even layer of wax in the direction of hair growth. For soft wax, make sure the edges are thin to avoid tearing the strip that you will use. For hard wax (Film Wax Drops), create a slightly thicker edge for easier removal using your fingers.
Removal:
- STEP 3 – Hold Skin Taut: With one hand, pull the skin taut below the area you’re waxing. This minimizes discomfort and ensures a clean pull.
- STEP 4 – Remove Against Hair Growth: For both, soft and hard wax, quickly and firmly pull the wax strip or hardened wax against the direction of hair growth. Keep the pull parallel to the skin, not upwards.
Speed is Key: The faster you pull, the less pain will be experienced. Don’t hesitate!
Immediate Pressure: Immediately after removing the wax, apply firm pressure to the waxed area with your hand. This helps to calm the skin and reduce stinging.
6. How can I minimize pain and redness after waxing?
Some pain and redness are normal, especially when you remove hair on sensitive skin, but you can definitely reduce it.
Apply Pressure Immediately: Pressing firmly on the freshly waxed area right after removal can significantly calm the nerve endings and reduce pain.
Cold Compress: Apply a cool compress or an ice pack wrapped in a cloth to the waxed area for 5-10 minutes. This helps to reduce inflammation and redness.
Post Waxing Products: Use any Simple Use Beauty product that is specifically designed for post-depilation. Either you will use Post Depilation Oil or Emulsion, both have calming, soothing and antiseptic properties. Oil also helps to remove any sticky residue. In case of Sugaring, you can use the Body Sugaring After Epilation Lotion.
Loose Clothing: Loose-fitting clothing to avoid friction on the waxed area, should be advised because wearing such type of clothing can exacerbate irritation.
Avoid Hot Showers/Baths: For at least 24 hours, very hot showers, baths, saunas, and steam rooms, should be avoided, as heat can further irritate freshly waxed skin.
No Touching: Touching the waxed area frequently, should be avoided, as this can transfer bacteria and lead to breakouts.
7. How long does the hair need to be for effective waxing?
For optimal results, the hair should ideally be about 0.6 cm (1/4 inch) long, or roughly the size of a grain of rice.
If the hair is too short, the wax won’t have enough to grip onto, leading to missed hairs.
REMINDER: For short-hard hair ideally you should use waxes with more thick/creamy texture, i.e. waxes containing Titanium Dioxide.
If it’s too long, the waxing process can be more painful, and the wax might not distribute evenly. If your hair is longer than 1 cm (1/2 inch), it’s a good idea to gently trim it before waxing for a more comfortable experience.
8. Are your products suitable for sensitive skin?
We understand that sensitive skin requires extra care, and we have products that are formulated with this in mind.
We offer a range of waxes, called SENSES (in both types, Soft and Hard Wax) specifically designed for sensitive skin, incorporating a unique combination of components that results into a Superior Quality 100% Hypoallergenic Wax.
SENSES waxes do not contain natural rosin and they are ideal for extremely sensitive skins or skins prone to allergies. The wax melts in a little lower temperature and it is easily applicable.
However, even with sensitive skin formulas, we always recommend performing a patch test on a small, inconspicuous area of the skin (like the inner arm) 24 hours before a full waxing session. This allows you to check for any adverse reactions and ensure the product is suitable for the skin. We also advise consulting the specific product descriptions for detailed ingredient lists and suitability claims.
